Northeast Trip

Tim and I decided to just hop in the car, no reservations, a tentative itinerary, and take off to see as much of the Northeast as we could. We drove through 13 states in 10 days! Retirement is fun!

We now only have 4 states left to see! Kansas, Minnesota, North and South Dakota.

Back where it all started exactly 30 years ago. He graduated Boot Camp in May of 1994 and it is now May 2024. This was my first time there. So it only took me 30 years to get there!
Cape May, New Jersey

The parade field he had to march. It was very windy and rainy while we were there which was the same as when he was in boot camp. It gave me a real appreciation for what he endured.

He proposed to me from a payphone at boot camp, while being yelled at of course! So now I got to visualize where he called me from! We are not allowed in those buildings!

Our good buddy Jake, who worked for Tim in GTMO is stationed there so we met him for dinner. Actually, he was in the midst of transferring to TX a few days later.

We drove on to Atlantic City for our first night.

We stayed at the Hard Rock Casino.

The next day was on to Connecticut. We saw a sign for the PEZ factory so we had to stop!

World's largest PEZ dispenser.

Then stopped for the night in New Haven and stayed right near Yale.

It was a gorgeous campus and it was graduation time!

Stopped for a nice dinner and beer.

The next day we stopped at the Coast Guard Academy in New London. I had never been there before.

We stopped for lunch in Mystic.

This is the place that inspired the movie, Mystic Pizza!

Some of it was filmed here.

Made a quick stop in Providence, Rhode Island.

Tonight we landed in Boston!

While standing there I thought I should have grabbed a tea bag from the hotel and dropped it in the harbor LOL.

Great room and it had a great view.

We drove by Harvard on our way out the next day.

We drove through Salem, Massachusetts.

We stopped at this trading post in Kittery Maine. Oh my goodness it is the biggest store we have ever been in. 3 stories of anything outdoors you could want. The whole bottom floor was just fishing. Also, I have never seen so many socks in one place for sale.

Tonight's stop is Portland, Maine.

Our good friends Wayne and Elisa told us to stop here.

So we did!

The next day we drove through New Hampshire and loved this little town!

We stopped and took a quick easy hike up to Cathedral Ledge. Amazing views!

The next stop was Ben and Jerry's in Vermont!

We stayed in a great room in Burlington Vermont.

The next day as we were about to head to New York State we stopped and got a Maple Creemee before leaving Vermont. It was so amazing.

The next stop is Niagara Falls, NY.

We rode the Maid of the Mist into Niagara Falls!

It was insane and so much fun!

At some points, we couldn't even see so much water was falling on us. We laughed our heads off.

It was so much fun!

That's what we rode into it.

The sound and the power are amazing!

You are right there and it just drops off.

We had a beautiful room for the night!

This was the lobby of our hotel.

We went back over to see it at night.

They have big spotlights on the Canadian side that shine over onto the falls on the American side and they change colors. So cool!

We got to catch a Mariners game on TV! Also, poor Tim is so sick at this point. About 2 hours after we rode the Maid of the Mist into the horseshoe of the falls he started not feeling well. He came down with a bad head cold.

We didn't realize they do fireworks at night but this was the amazing view from our room!

The next day and our last stop was to Pittsburg Pennsylvania! We walked around a bit and got to see the stadium from here. Tim was feeling pretty rough so we stayed close to our hotel had dinner and relaxed in our room. We headed home the next morning. What a fun trip!
